Drip or shut off to prevent freezing pipes

I don’t want to shut the main off due to a tenant needing water. If I shut off the pipes going to my unit that don’t have one of those drains on them and I open the faucets for expansion of the water left in the pipes is this better or worse than dripping the faucets? Also the farther point is a washing machine that I don’t know hot to drip if that’s the case ? Thanks

If you can't drain the pipes dry, leave them running a bit. A drip may not be enough.

Is there no way you can disconnect the washing machine hoses and let them run into a drain somewhere?
