Found a really cool tool

I was at the supply house and found this little tool which you hold up to the rear of a Grundfoss circulator and it lets you know if its running. I loved it. I bought one for every employee, even the secretary. Not sure if it works on other circs.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think all that tool does is to confirm that there is AC current to the circulator stator coils. The rotor can still be locked and that gizmo will still spin.

I know. I was disappointed too.

I have had a few of these as well. At least they let you know that the circulator is getting power, at which point you can eliminate the boiler control and/or relay from the troubleshooting. It narrows the issue down to a flow problem.

You can get them FREE from Grundfos

They used to have the big plug in the back, you could check that the rotor was wet, crank start a stuck pump with a screwdriver and also feel with your little finger if it was rotating, (very carefully of course, don't try this at home.)
