need some help with old oil to gas burner

My old oil to gas burner's pilot light is putting out a lot of carbon(soot) and is not staying lit. It also has a crack in the side of the pilot light where the flame comes out and hits the tcouple. Its a sears model 337.417 burner. Could the crack be causing the carbon(soot) problem. The tcoupler is about 15yrs old and the end is messed up is it bad I ask because I can't find any pictures of bad tcouplers on google or you tube.

    A Sears conversion burner?
    I think the operative word is "old".
    Might be time for a burner upgrade.
    Can you give some info on the boiler?
    Maybe post some pics?
    It might be a partially clogged pilot orifice.
    A cracked pilot assembly must be replaced, especially if it's sooting.
    Has a combustion analysis been done?
    I would say do not continue using that burner.

    Any maintenance records as to when it was last serviced and if so what were the readings of combustion...
