I can read 20, 1916 on the side. Possibly a patent date.

I didn't get a name on the valve I should be going back again, huge house, 5500 sq ft, brick, little to no insulation, needs ac. I felt semi awkward getting pics of the steam but I'm often without shame if it involves cool heating stuff.

Homeowner just bought the house, says the house is either 20's or 30"s. I tend to agree. You would think someone would know the exact year but oh well

Hold the phone, I just googled and one hit says built in 1900.

Boilers appear to be 1980s, two oil boilers. I did not stop and look, the homeowner was in a slight hurry to get to his dinner plans

The traps seem more regular see pic

I'll reply report back when I get back, just may need to charge for the quote on this one.

Be careful with build dates. They're often wrong.

My town says our house was built in 1901, along with many other houses in the area but it's completely wrong. This house and the neighboring houses were all built sometime in the 1860s. I assume 1901 is some kind of date where the town started keeping track or something.

When we bought the house, the realtor told us 1920.

@GW , that one's a Barnes & Jones 122- a current model. Hopefully you'll find some that are older. But if that system dates back to 1900, it may not have had traps at all, and the 122 was retrofitted. We'll know more when we find out who made those hand valves.

@ChrisJ , the 1901 or 1920 might be when the property got on the tax rolls. Not sure how things work in Joisey, but around here we often find this when, for example, a county was split in two or a town or city annexed surrounding areas.

Dates when houses were built can be really hard to track. You would think, the place I care for being on the National Register and a museum and all that, that I'd have a good handle on it -- and I do, for part of it. 1893. The south end? Not so tight. 1875, give or take a year. Except the farthest south end, which was moved there in about 1880 -- but which itself dates from around 1780. Center section? The town says 1810. Not... but probably not earlier than 1750. Give or take a decade...

Is that a setscrew on the side that would let you move the eccentric stop portion? Orifice valve perhaps that had no traps on the radiator? You really want to take one apart, don't you....I do. ;)

Just a thought, after someone jacked up the pressure to 5 PSI they suddenly need traps??
