I have a Vokera Compact SE Combi Boiler controlled by a Honeywell ST9100A - because of reasons of disability I would like to turn the heating on or off remotely by using my Iphone what must I do to achieve this please?

My son has been getting me up to speed on simple, inexpensive wifi controls. This is one he got at home depot to turn on lights, music, etc.

With this site you could even ask Siri to do it for you.

It should be a simple matter of changing your thermostat out to one that is WiFi enabled such as this one:

    https://customer.honeywell.com/en-US/Pages/Product.aspx?cat=HonECC+Catalog&pid=TH6320WF1005/U&category=Programmable+FocusPRO+WiFi&catpath=1.2.28.1.47

You will need to have wireless internet set up in your house, and then you will download an app on your phone and you will be able to control the thermostat from anywhere. Installation and set up by a pro is pretty straightforward.

Ecobee is another popular choice if you want to upgrade your thermostat. Very easy to set up, works great with the i-phone ap.

And for heaven's sake whatever you install -- at least change the password on it.

I have misgivings about this internet of things. Computers hang up and they often do it at the worst time.

As long as you have 24 volts you operate the system the old fashion way. Manually. I too, have mixed feelings about these t'stats. I wonder about the WiFi security?

The WiFi security is usually horrible. Even if the customer changes the passwords to something reasonably secure (and no, "12345678" doesn't count), which most don't (and some devices you can't) the software built in to many IoT devices is pretty weak in that regard (there has recently been a huge DDos attack powered by a botnet of IoT devices). I'm not a particularly paranoid type, but I wouldn't have an IoT device in my house -- whether it's a toaster or a fancy thermostat. No.
