Need more room..look up--Check gas pressure?

These are from 2 different job sites:

Some talked about getting more space in the boiler room....just use the attic.

Then:
This is a really handy gas stop for tapping the gas pressure; however I explained the reason of the tap to my 14 year old grandson and he came to the conclusion that you will. There are 12 like this in this building. Maybe 150' of 2" gas supply line, a lot to purge in order to pull that plug out. Installation was in 2000 and I am pretty sure that company has not fixed the stupid part of their organization yet.

The air tank is from a 60's installation at a nursing home. The boiler room (very small..on grade) may not have had the ceiling rocked originally. Trusses above. Fire Marshall finally showed up years? later.

The gas valve/stop though, this company was under much deserved scrutiny by the end of job. Architect, part of an engineering firm, would have walked thru this numerous times.
I was the electrical contractor on the job and never noticed it until having to repair their installation(s). They are infamous throughout several counties and of course the low bidder.
They have made it on the NO Way list of several architects, GC's and others. ;)

I think they have the plug there so that when all the electronic s#*t craps out they can add a B cock and convert to a standing pilot :-)

I recall when they showed up to fire part of the 10 NG furnaces for temp heat, one of the guys got out his propane bottle torch to "light the pilots" (all units have HW Smart Valves). ;)

Those are the only gas cocks I use anymore except I put the tap downstream of the valve so I can attach a manometer or pressure gauge.

I wish I had used one, I need to remove the plug in my CGV to check it and that's always fun.

I don't have these stop/tap available from my suppliers. So for the handful of installs/changeouts I do, I add a 1/2X1/2X1/4" tee after the stop. I remove the 1/4" plug and use 1/4 X 1/8 reducing bushing for pressure checks.

You guys probably already know this but, there's a gas tap on just about every gas valve made now. On the inlet and outlets for testing purposes.

Some of those are a PITA to use, it was nice when there was a 1/8" tap on the manifold for outlet pressure.

Some eng specs call for the 1/8" tap in the supply piping also.
It may have been in the specs for this project and so was installed. (backwards)

    PITA is an understatement.
I have to lay on my dirt floor on my back to connect to the manifold side.
