AC disconnect switch

HI, can I have you option / help on something. My friend Central AC is not working and, I told her to look for the out side disconnect switch. She found it and sent me these pics, I never seen anything like this, does this take a fuse? or does it just press In? Or is it broke?

Thanks - Tom

That is a common disconnect box. If you plug it in with the "ON" up the circuit will be complete and the AC could run. If you plug it in with the "OFF" up the circuit will be open and the AC can not run.

There is no fuse in the box.

Thanks, So the last photo, is the correct way for it to run? I also would like to know should it be pressed in hard or just soft?

Hard. Those contacts have to fully engage, and they aren't meant to be easy. The handle thingy has to rest at least flush with the enclosure.

She also needs to check the Breaker box, inside the house and make sure the, Breaker for the circuit, that feeds that box has not tripped.

Does the furnace fan run when there is a call for cooling?

If not does the fan run with fan switch "on"?

Any fuses would be behind the plastic panel below the pull bar.
