steam traps

Hi, we are replacing a 100,000 btu steam coil in a duct system. previous contractor had installed a 3/4" float type steam trap on a single pipe steam system with wet returns. Do we need to reuse the steam trap

    On a single pipe system with the outlet of the coil discharging to a wet return, with NO condensate receiver, but rather a gravity return to boiler, there should be NO trap on the outlet of the heater. However, the outlet should have a vent installed, such as a Hoffman 74. It should be configured so that it is even with the top of the coil.

    System = Early Dunham 2-pipe Vacuo-Vapor (inlet and outlet both at bottom of radiators) Traps are Dunham #2 rebuilt w. Barnes-Jones Cage Units, Dunham-Bush 1E, Mepco 1E, and Armstrong TS-2. All valves haveTunstall orifices sized at 8 oz.
    Current connected load EDR= 1,259 sq ft, Original system EDR = 2,100 sq ft Vaporstat, 13 oz cutout, 4 oz cutin - Temp. control Tekmar 279.

    Here is a picture of it. Shows a unit heater, but a coil would be piped the same.

    3/4" sounds large for fractional gpm.

    Unit heater manufacturers state that two pipe is required. But I believe that I've seen them used with one pipe. Heater is above pipe and both heater connections are used. I don't think that trap is called for. Generally boiler feed is de-aerated.

    The fan controls heater output.
