Depends on the unit. Some manufacturers don't want you putting their equipment on any type of combustible floor.

this is in reference to a Beckett AFG burner. The boiler had to be installed in such a way that the burner is sitting just above a wood ledge that allows the door to open but puts the burner close to wood.

Well, this is a new one on me.

On that burner, the only thing that might get warm is the motor. If it has the current-model PSC motor, the motor housing would be at least an inch higher than the chassis, which would give even more clearance from the wood. But if there is an oil leak, the oil might soak into the wood, which would make it more flammable.

I'd call Beckett's tech support and ask them- 1-800-OIL-BURN.

How far is that piece of wood from the boiler itself? What boiler is it?

This is a question best answered by your local fire prevention officer as well

Thanks Steamhead and Bill. In this case it is coming from the local fire chief. The burner box itself sit's about 3" above the wood. It is on a Trio P3 boiler. I didnt do the install was just asked the question, one I've never heard before. Guess I'll go talk with him and see what his concerns are for confirmation..

The boiler must not be installed on combustible flooring. The boiler is approved for installation on non combustible flooring only. The boiler must not be installed on carpeting or vinyl flooring

the question is not the boiler...the question is the burner...

When ever I have a concern about combustible clearance I place sheetmetal over area w/ a air space. Sort of a akin to making an B-vent covering.

That in fact has been done..I'm just curious to see if there is actually a clearance...in this line of work everything has a clearance...although not always followed..LOL

The burner would be considered part of the boiler.
