Hello I recently acquired my fathers house which is quite old and I'm totally new to oil burners, I'm sure it can be replaced for a newer more efficient unit.. however not quite ready to take that leap.

It has been working for years and I would like to clean it, but the bottom firebox? I am unsure of what is supposed to be in there and what is not as far as soot, are the photos depicting some sort of liner or is that all build up that needs to be removed?

    At minimum, it needs a new firebox. That one looks like it's deteriorating.

    Not sure I recognize that burner head- what burner is on it? Can you take a pic of the burner?

    Has a retrofitted Beckett.. photos added to same link, it's pulled away from the base in photo.

    Any idea what cost I would be looking at or if its even available?

    I removed my oakmont but thought it was 1930 vintage..Since that is when my house was built. It went from coal, to oil, to natural gas- as best I can tell. There was coal stains in basement beneath coal chute. I did not come across asbestos like described. Lots of loose clay bricks. Anyone know how long this line was manufactured?

    To the OP, when you do replace your boiler, you are gonna love the improvement! Fuel cost dropped 60% because the system was in horrid condition.

    Memories of these. Unfortunately you will best to rebuild with brick. Trying to get a bathtub in these are painstaking. Replace that when you can

    The ad is 1947, plenty of Oakmonts a lot older than that!
