Maybe convert oil to gas with steam radiators?

I bought a 3-family house that uses oil. Apparently, one of the boiler/burner/furnaces needs to be replaced (I think it is about 25 years old). I know nothing about heat nor do I know the terms (obviously). Do I switch to gas? Do I need to buy a whole new system? What is the difference between a boiler and a burner? If anyone knows of an article that explains all of this, bring it on!
Thanks!
DR

Are you talking natural gas or propane?
Do you know what your local costs are for oil and the gas options?
Posting a pictures of you appliance would help.

A steam system can run well on either fuel. But you need a contractor who knows what he's doing with steam, and this usually is NOT the low bidder.

I know this multi family homes that rent the units out change to gas all the time...Renters always look for that because they like the ability to pay monthly... In these parts Renters run out of oil all the time... It gets ugly...That's was my experience,at least
