Schedule 40 vs. Schedule 80 for Wet Returns

in THE MAIN WALL
We are starting a project where the owner wants to replace the wet returns. Any thoughts on using Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 for a low pressure (less than 2-psig) system. The wet returns are all 2-inch.

    You're not asking about using PVC pipe are you?

    Sorry, no. I should have been more specific. I'm looking to use threaded carbon steel piping.

    Sch. 80 is heavy pipe. It has a smaller Inside diameter, You have to upsize the pipe because of the smaller ID. Plus it is very expensive.

    Another option for WET returns is copper. I wouldn't do sch 80 the sch 40 should last beyond the life of the homeowner.

    Schedule 80 is standard procedure for steam condensate piping in commercial and industrial plants. I can't say I have ever seen it used in a house. It will last longer though. The difference in diameter is not enough to be concerned with.
