Tubing clearances for IC rated recessed lights

I have read some older posts about the effects of IC rated recessed lights on radiant tubing. There was a lot of speculation but no hard evidence.

Has anyone seen any published literature on minimum clearances between an IC rated recessed light and PEX tubing?

    I've seen the results...

    and they weren't pretty.

With the elimination of the incandescent bulb, the potential is significantly less, but I'd still recommend keeping as much clearance as possible, 6" minimum to avoid potential issues.

Never know when someone may have hoarded 100 years of bright hot incandescent flood lights for use in cans…

    Funny thing

about IC  ( in contact) can lights is the fact that once you install a bulb with a higher wattage rating than the light was rated for they cease to be IC fixtures . By the way the IC means in contact with insulation only .

    IC Insulate Caps

I was just on a job site where the electrical contractor was installing insulated caps over top of all of his cans. It serves a double purpose of insulating around the cans and preventing anything from contact with the unit. Unfortunately I did not get a name or brand...

    Hats

I don't have a specific brand. The hats are required as part of a 1 hour fire assembly.

Most IC rated cans have high temp cutout switches. It is crazy that they are achieving 250+ degree temps. That is not just dangerous for pex.
