Hi All,

Came across this Weil-Mclain product. Seems to be a cast iron/stainless steel hybrid, high eff.(91+) boiler.  Any experiance with this?

    It is the old Weil-McLain

GV series Gold Boilers with a heat reclaimer attached for condensing. Much the same thing Burnham did a while back with the Revolution Series II.

The same controls and operation as the Gold.

    90% AFUE

It's for people who can't or won't understand P/S and modulation. If Weil was my choice,I'd go with the 97

    90+

This boiler has no outdoor reset, no modulation.

    GV-90+

I agree that nothing can beat a properly designed and installed mod/con.

Looking at the I/O manual, it shows that the GV-90+3 and 4 can be installed without P/S piping while the larger 5 and 6 need to be installed P/S. Diverter T systems may or may not work with the provided system pump.

Also, outdoor reset is offered as a plug and play option provide that the boiler temp not go below 140*F.

I don't work for W/M and have no financial interest. It just looked to me as a possible alternative to a full-on mod/con system.

    Dollars and sense

I think the GV 90+ has its place on the market. It makes sense on baseboard systems, it's rather small btu load and its proven reliability make it good for many applications. Paired with a good condensing on demand helps your bottom line since the boiler is economical. The draw back is I forgot how heavy these cast iron boilers are. I do feel getting 91-2% all the time whenever it runs is good, especially when you subtract all the possible service calls we ALL get with mod cons.
