Identifying this trap

Could anyone tell me how this trap was designed to work?

    Looks like it forms a water seal. No moving parts.

    It's missing the thermostatic element

    you can see a bit of it still screwed into the underside of the trap's cover.



    Try Tunstall or Barnes & Jones for replacement parts.

    It looks like the pipe inlet is lower than the outlet.

    i'm assuming thats an optical illusion

    or the air wouldn't get out of the radiator.

    works the same as any thermostatic trap, but sits sideways, thats all..theory was it would stay cleaner that way..
