I keep seeing things regarding protection tubes being needed for water probes on commercial boilers.
This seems like a good idea, why don't residential boilers have this as well?

Pressure?
I'd guess that some commercial boilers are operating at high pressure so the danger of a bursting glass is a more serious concern.

Nope
The protection tube is to keep the LWCO probe in a calm environment like the gauge glass so it gets a more accurate reading.Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

Money
Well then it has to be the money, nobody wants to put anything on a boiler that doesn't increase sales to cover the cost - no matter how small.

Sad
Bob, isn't that sad that you could assume that and probably be 100% right?
Probably the same reason there is no anode rod.Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.
