It depends what it is being used for. If just a filtering capacitor, then yes. If it is involved in timing or surge protection, perhaps not.0 -

Sounds like a dual cap from a condensing unit.
You can go as much as 10% larger in micro-farad rating. So, no, you cannot replace a 30uf with a 40uf. That would be 33% over.
You can always increase the voltage rating, though: i.e. a 370V cap can be replaced with a 440V cap of the same uf rating + 10%.Bob Boan
