How do you skim a boiler

    Generally speaking

    run the boiler just below the steam point while feeding fresh water to the boiler and draining existing boiler water at the same time. Most manufactures also specify removal of the relief valve, and isolation of the boiler to streamline the process, and keep any chemicals in the boiler.



    The draining at first will be at the water line (skim tapping). Also addition of chemicals for skimming is typical. Tsp is a popular one as is LYE (caustic soda)



    It's best to follow the manufactures guidelines during this process, because the process can be involved, and also includes multiple steps. Usually taking a full day, sometimes more.



    I'd give the steps, but the procedure would take too much typing.
