One of our employees took this off an old steam system when he woked for someone else. Just checking to see if anyone has seen this before.

Andy, what size is the thread? 1/8", 1/4" If its that small could it be an adjustable air vent for an Early Steam System?0 -

Yikes!
Could be an early Paul-system type of vent. Here's a Pemberton vent. This one had a cork inside of it. It took the place of an air vent. The outlet connection ran to an ejector on a steam engine. The ejector sucked the air from the steam system. When steam hit the cork, the cork swelled and stopped the steam from traveling down the vent pipe.

And why would that have been on a steam heating system?Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

I think that spring-closed style flapper is a dead give-a-way for an oiler. And the top handle is a primer pump?0 -

These are on a stationary steam engine. Most steam locomotives in recent use used power oilers.
Right: lift and turn. When lifted, oil dribbles out (very slowly). When not lifted, it is shut off. The valve is a needle valve and turning adjusts the drip rate.0 -
