One of our employees took this off an old steam system when he woked for someone else. Just checking to see if anyone has seen this before.

Hmm.
Looks like a modulating supply valve for a radiator in a vapor system, Andy.Retired and loving it.0 -
Valve
Andy, what size is the thread? 1/8", 1/4" If its that small could it be an adjustable air vent for an Early Steam System?0 -
I has an 1/8" pipe thread
Thanks Guys0 -
Yikes!
Could be an early Paul-system type of vent. Here's a Pemberton vent. This one had a cork inside of it. It took the place of an air vent. The outlet connection ran to an ejector on a steam engine. The ejector sucked the air from the steam system. When steam hit the cork, the cork swelled and stopped the steam from traveling down the vent pipe.
Can you take pics from other angles, Andy?Retired and loving it.0 -

The lever

steam engine
It looks like a steam engine oiler, or one to a hit and miss engine.0 -
Google images
Just looked at hundreds of Google images for that, Tim, and I think you're right. Thanks.Retired and loving it.0 -
Is it a McCoy?
And why would that have been on a steam heating system?Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

Might be
a sight-feed lubricating device. Did it come out of a larger building that might have had a steam-powered generator? Is there a name or trade-mark on it?All Steamed Up, Inc.

...
I think that spring-closed style flapper is a dead give-a-way for an oiler. And the top handle is a primer pump?0 -
Or...
...not a pump, just a seat lifter to let the oil in.

Here are two.

These are on a stationary steam engine. Most steam locomotives in recent use used power oilers.
Right: lift and turn. When lifted, oil dribbles out (very slowly). When not lifted, it is shut off. The valve is a needle valve and turning adjusts the drip rate.0 -
"Thanks Guys
