First Stage will not heat to shut off temp

Hey All,

My heater will not heat up to the shut off temp. No matter what the setting on the thermostat, the temp will get up to 1° below the temp and just blow cold air.  If the temp goes down in the room, the second stage will come on and bring the temp up to where the second stage cuts off and the cycle continues.

I am really not sure what else information to provide.  Can anyone help?

Thanks

    Understanding a Heat Pump

You may want to have your system checked by a competent serviceman, but it may be functioning normally.

See my explanation in an earlier post:

    Exactly what I am seeing

Your post in the link describes the problem exactly.  I have a different thermostat I will try and see if it has the feature you mentioned to stop the cycle.

Is the heat pump even running? I'm guessing not. Check to be sure it is on. If running, see if the fat refrigerant line under the insulation is hot. If not, go to emergency heat  until it can be checked. If it is not running, check the breaker. If OK, you'll need a tech - probably best to have the system checked even if running and a hot discharge line if it isn't heating the home in mild weather. At 7 above like we had this morning, what you describe is normal.

Despite being in a cold, snowy area, we have lots of heat pump systems due to low electric rates.
