Tapping on Riser

I am in the bottom flr apartment of a 12 flr building. I hear tapping on the riser after after the boiler finishes its cycle. any ideas? Thanks

    I'd bet on...

    contraction noise as the riser cools and shrinks and stick/slips on something.  Hard to find.  Harder to cure...
