    Fabric

Mine were wrapped in a couple of layers of cloth and then the cloth was saturated with paint . . . almost like they are in a plaster cast.   Best to let somebody who is properly trained do the job.

you could get the foil-backed, thin fiberglass insulation from the big-box store, and cover over what you have on the pipes now, secured with foil backed sticky tape. you would have to be well protected clothing-wise, and wear a breathing mask. remember that it is the removal/disposal which needs a special licence etc.

the gaelic advice given is good [who knew the celts knew about asbestos?].-nbc

    Plaster cloth

wrapped all of mine in plaster cloth -- comes in various widths.  A little messy to put on (!), but when it dries it dries good and hard, and makes a nice neat job.

"who knew the celts knew about asbestos?].:"

It was 25 years ago but I took a course on remediation and the instructor mentioned blue a******s as the worst and that it is common in Celtic construction.

That remains with me today although I have not seen any albeit I try to avoid seeing any colors of the stuff.
