Removing 40 yr Old solar tank

Was cutting it apart to get the weight down (400 pounds) and was totally amazed at the internal condition of the tank. Very minor scale /buildup  . the internal lower copper heat transfer coil was almost  new with very minor scale as well. the Electric element was never wired up.    Paul



Forgot to say its a Ford Stone lined tank...

    Re tank cutting

    Hi  HR: I cutting it into 2 foot sections with a thin kerf 5" grinder wheel , to my surprise the actual metal is quite thin ,then a couple hits with a sledge and it breaks cleanly on the cut line thru the 5/8 inch layer of Concrete.   Paul

    Hi Kevin : Yes the  internal coil had developed a pinhole leak of some sort ,but no external tank leaks at all .In the day these were one of the best tanks out there . Now running my Evacs into a 120 gal dual coil ss tank and a Smart 40 I'm working for overflow (temp). All pumped by a single 20 watt  PV  DC pump which provides nice linear /proportional control..... with 8 people in the house we use lots of water.   Paul
