anyone know if the "operate in the middle third of the curve" rule holds true for ECM pumps?

  • ECM Pumping

    Hi Rob

Short answer is you can select an ECM pump anywhere between min/max head and 0 to max flow without any large loss in efficiency, unlike a constant speed pump where as you have suggested should be selected in the middle 1/3 of it's flow range (to get close to it's BEP).

Typically I select ECM pumps to the right hand side but they rarely run there due to us constantly oversizing pumps and systems.

    Hope this helps...

  • ECM Pump Selection - Where on the curve?

Rob, I totally agree - the tech is waaaay cool.  As I say in my training classes, 4 innovations in our industry:

    1)  Electricity

    2) Oxygen Barrier (cross link) pipe

    3) Condensing Boilers

    4) Variable flow ECM pumps

Drop me a line with your mailing address and I will send our our latest traing CD with ECM app drawings (drawn by Siggy) and lots of other info...
