What's the back story with all the V-7 leaks - are they mostly due to improper installs with no return temp protection?  Seems a lot of them have trouble near the coil, does avoiding using the coil help (maybe same thing - cold water coming in to the coil causing a shock to the casting).

Or is there really a flaw dooming all of them to a short life?  Did later production address the problem or was it primarily early ones that had the problem?

I ask as I have one brand new on the pallet which was made about 2005 and I'm wondering if it is worth bothering with.

    Stress Cracks

    There is a fault in the design of the casting , causes a stress crack across the clean out area ...



    Is it worth it ? Depends on the job I guess ...

    v7 flaw

    It definatly a design flaw and I think the same thing is happening to the v8, but not as severe.

    It will be fine....

    so long as you don't overfire it. They uppped the btu ratings to compete w/ the other brands at the time. Fire it a slightly lower rate and it will last a long time.
