No equalizer

I was looking at a steam system in a small house and noticed there was no equalizer. It is a two pipe system with a boiler feed pump. There are F&T traps at the ends of the mains. The header drain has a F&T trap that is piped to the return at the inlet of the feed tank. The feed pump is piped directly into the boiler return connection. The Boiler is a Smith GB200-S-5.  Everything else looks fine. I do not know if there are any operational problems or not. I was wondering if there are any potential problems in not having the equalizer.??

    First thing I'd wonder

    is why there is a boiler feed pump at all?  On a small house system?  Just seems to me like complexity added to confusion...

    It is a pretty basic feed pump.

    I do not know the history of the system.The feed pump has beenthere a while and as far as I can see (in the 15 minutes I was there)works fine. Do they need the equalizer with the feed pump?
