Steam radiator automatic control valves

Hey guys, I've been given a project. One of our

salesmen has a customer that currently has a 2 pipe steam system with

thermostatic valves on all radiators. The customer is requesting

getting rid of the individual valves/power-heads, and installing valves

that would open all radiators in a room by room basis. So I am looking

for some kind of 1/2" and 3/4" and 1" electric zone valve for steam, or let

say a way to control multiple thermostatic valves with one power head.

I'm open to suggestions.

    suggestions, but two recommendations:



    First, whatever you decide to use, it must be full port.  Don't be tempted to go reduced port for cost, whatever you do.  You are dealing with saturated steam here, and only full port valves will do.



    Having said that, pretty much any valve with a good operator should work.  I'd be inclined to go with a ball valve, but a gate valve or plug would work just as well.



    Control it off a regular thermostat in the room...

    Who's valves are existing?

    I think Danfoss valves can be retrofitted with a 24 volt heat motor operator...



    Why do they want to yank the TRV's?



    Let me guess. Utility billing system. No?



    Bad idea without a substantial means of proving actual operation. (If they are trying to sub bill utilities)

    The customers idea is to have a thermostat in every room, that could control multiple rads in each room, rather then having to dial in each individual thermostatic valve. They still want temperature control, just something they can see the temp they are setting,room by room. So the question is, who is making small motorized or electric steam control valves.

    in my experience, when people want some sort of extra complication like this; it is because the system wasn't working properly to begin with. this could be like the car with the stuck throttle, which is using bigger brakes to keep the speed under control.

    they may find with a different thermostatic control [or different sensor location],  everything is much better

    before making any mods to this, why not make sure the system is working as the dead men intended first, then go on from there?--nbc
