Alternatives to threaded pipe unions

Hello,

It looks like years ago someone cut the feed to the attic radiator. We will be finishing the space and I'd like to heat it ;) They capped the tee on the main line, but cut the pipe that goes to the attic. The pipe is walled into a pipe run up the side of the house. I can get at it, though its surrounded by other pipes like sewage and water that have been added over the years. I can get in there to cut it but not to thread it.

Since I cant get in there to thread it are there any other sort of union options so I can ge this pipe to where it needs to go?

Thanks!

josh

    threading hidden pipe

can the pipe be moved up and down, to give clearance for threading? there are hand threaders available cheaply at harbor freight, or rentable. generally i don't like cheap tools, but in this case, you will never want to hand thread a pipe again! alternatively, the old pipe could be removed in sections, and replaced by a series of 6 ft. nipples, joined by couplings--nbc

If you have access to a welder

you could weld a flange on it, then continue the pipe with a threaded flange. Have someone standing by with a fire extinguisher if you go this route.

Make sure the pipe didn't get cut off somewhere in the wall!
