Converting Steam System To Hot Water

I am looking for information on converting a steam system to hot water, using exsisting piping and radior. I would like to find any Text books or Dan's books that cover the ins and outs. Thanks Tom

T,
This is almost always the wrong solution to a problem that should not exist.
Yes. It can be done. It is so prhibitively expensive, that the pay back (if one ever comes about) takes over 10 and frequently 20+ years to justify the savings or comfort.
TRV's, proper near boiler piping, insulation, low presure controls, cleaning, venting, etc. need to be made right.
A water or steam system that's badly designed is bad in any venue. Unless it's already a 2-pipe array, the task is daunting at best; a nightmare at worst.
If the boiler is older than dirt and must be replaced anyhow, the pay-back time may be less than 20+.

Steam to hot water
It can be done and Dan has written about it, however he has written far more about repairing steam systems.
There is a reason for this; it seldom makes sense to convert a system to hot water, with a little TLC you can have a comfortable, quiet and efficent steam system.0 -
Try to avoid
converting, if at all possible. The hassles involved are incredible (the guys above have just begun to scratch the surface!) and the advantages are very close to nil. Zippo.
Find a good steam guy (there are a lot of them on this site!) and get the steam system restored; anything you can do with hot water, you can do with steam!Br. Jamie, osb

Jumping on the bandwagon
Steam is beautiful. And if working properly is as economical and efficient as it is good looking.
A little TLC can pay big dividends.
