Backflow preventer and prv's

Options
Especially if you have to use an RPZ type backflow preventor. Flush the line first tho.

    thinking out loud

Would a viable solution to backflow preventor discharges be to pipe them after the prv to be on the low pressure side?

No...clean the check or allow the water in the fill line to acclimate. Check wants full house pressure, then PRV.

    prv bfpi

We have had to change quite a few that people have put on the outlet side of the prv, no pressure differential for the bfpi to see so it opens up. Also make sure to put a Y strainer before the bfpi, this will save some service calls.

    Water hammer

Water hammer can cause a small discharge from the backflow especially an RPZ.
We install a simple spring loaded 1/2 check before the backflow.
That stops the small discharge from water hammer.
