Backflow preventer and prv's

Especially if you have to use an RPZ type backflow preventor. Flush the line first tho.

Would a viable solution to backflow preventor discharges be to pipe them after the prv to be on the low pressure side?0 -
No...clean the check or allow the water in the fill line to acclimate. Check wants full house pressure, then PRV.

prv bfpi
We have had to change quite a few that people have put on the outlet side of the prv, no pressure differential for the bfpi to see so it opens up. Also make sure to put a Y strainer before the bfpi, this will save some service calls.0 -
Water hammer
Water hammer can cause a small discharge from the backflow especially an RPZ.
We install a simple spring loaded 1/2 check before the backflow.
That stops the small discharge from water hammer.
