Four Way Street CSNY

Options
But don't play mumbley peg with him he'll steal your leg. Brings back memories of a 1966 sea foam green Rambler American with a painting on the headliner and a girl named....well.. lets skip that part to protect the guilty.. Thanks for the reminder, I'll have to dig it out and listen to it soon. BTW age is just a state of mind.

Twas my day of Birth last week

So I bought myself some Cd's. I picked up Four Way Street by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

I had forgotten how great the acoustic sets are. Triad, The Lee Shore and Chicago ! SO much better to listen too than this yelling stuff out there now. Ya I know, I'm and old man.

It just seems like thier was talent then. My guitar teacher says the real talent is not how loud you cam play but how quite you can play.

By the way Carry On, Long Time Gone and Southern Man just Rock.

Ahh the signs of age ... fondness for rememberance.

in early 70's, "Long Time Gone" stands the test of time. Scott, I buy cd's all the time. Probably have 3000+, looking for something from the past that you can't locate?Early stuff- Cactus, Moxy, Jukin' Bone, Humble Pie, Mountain, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and the list goes on and on. let me know...

    Good Tuneage

Thanks for the CSNY recommendation - I've been meaning to get some on CD. Which album has "Cowgirl in the Sand" - or is that just Neil Young?
If you like acoustic mixed with electric - revisit Hot Tuna. Better yet, go to their shows - they still tour and crank!

    Thats

Everybody knows this is nowhere .

Thats just Niel Young, but Four Way Street has a live version. I saw him do it at the Boston Garden ( or Bawstin Gadin as we say here ) back in 73. Opening act was Linda Rondstadt and the Stone Ponys, back when she used to rock.

    Here's a song

guarenteed to bring you right down. It's called "Don't Let it Bring You Down." It sort of starts out slow, and then fizzles out all together." One of my favorite song introductions by Neil Young. The Southern Man Jam is rock at it's finest. "Ohio" still gets me choked up. The picture of the Kent State girl kneeling next to the shot student pleading for help while blood runs down the sidewalk, is burned on my memory, and that song brings it to my eyes every time. Great Album. WW

    Top notch concert...

Saw CSN (without Y) at Great Woods in the late 80's -- after Crosby got out of jail, mighta been after his liver transplant. They were old, but they rocked! "Almost Cut My Hair" has a hallowed spot on the Barba Top Ten. Think I'll fire up the IPOD and give a listen...

CD's are nice, but it's just not the same as opening up a double vinyl album jacket and finding the leafy, buddy remnants of an evening long, long ago...
  • Florist?

    In your past life?

    :-)

A lot to be said about the old fold open albums, open albums, open albums (smack) and the way the records played.

    Marshall Tucker album

I had an old Marshall Tucker album that skipped in the same place during "24 Hours At A Time." For 20 years I heard the song skip in the same place at the same time. Go buy the CD, and no skip. The song just doesn't sound right.

Another CD to pick up -- if you're into late 70's British pop is Rokpile, "Seconds Of Pleasure," with Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds. Make sure it has the bonus tracks of Lowe and Edmunds singing the Everly Brothers -- great stuff!

    Mr Barba (MTB)

    John,
Grab Marshall Tucker Band "Stompin' Room Only" Live in mid 70's recently released as soon as you can and give me an update when you do. One of the great jam cds of all times! Toy never sounded better. Blue Ridge Mountain Sky & Can't You see will give you chills...

    MILNES OLD!!!!

Linda Ronstadt and Stone Pony???? I bet he had a rayon "shiny shirt" in sand tones too.( Damn Hippies!)

I saw CSN on the Boston Common back in 86. They mix and match so well on stage. The harmonies are amazing...but I bet they don't hang out together too much when they're not touring. Chris

    Check!

    Rick --

I'll give it a listen. Seen MTB four times over the years -- Springfield (MA)Civic Center; Cap Centre in Landover, MD (both mid-late 70's versions); Marlboro, MA High School (mid 80's) and most recently at beautiful Bogart's in Apple Valley, MN (96-97). Was hoping for a duet on "This Ole' Cowboy," at karaoke, but the guys couldn't get away. They could still kick it hard, though!

Ever heard of Mojo Nixon and the Texas Toadlickers? Another one for your collection! "Don Henley Must Die" is an all-timer.....

    Who forgot the 8-tracks?

I still have a bunch of them...now, if I can find a factory 8-track player for my '72 Cutlass Ragtop! My wife has 2 old 8-track player/recorder units that work! Rememmber when a track ended in the middle of a song, and it continued on the next track? as far as CSN&Y is concerned, saw them three times in my life, best concert was at Wolf Trap near D.C. some years ago, sans Young. But the last time at the MCI center in D.C. was truly awesome, with Neil belting out Cinnamon Girl!

MTB are playing a fair here in upstate NY in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to it even though Toy is no longer with us (RIP) he was truly one of the pioneers of southern rock. Stompin' Room Only will be right up there with all time live albums in the company of Allmans live at the fillmore and Humble Pie, Rockin' The Fillmore. What are the best live albums ever?

    After an

Elton John concert in the 90's all music has to be played loud for me to hear anything.

Great concert, lousy after-affects. I'd rather have my hearing back to normal rather than the memory.

    No way to delay...

the trouble comin' every day. How 'bout Penguin in Bondage, Cheepnis or Son of Orange County? Not sure which was better -- the music or Frank's banter in between?

To go with The Last Waltz, fire up Rock of Ages and After the Flood. Or is it Before the Flood? It was one of those double albums that you open up, and it gets fuzzy after that...

    Was at Watkins Glen 73'

Saw The Band, Allman Brothers & Grateful Dead, have to say The Band stole the show it was unbelievable. Man, am I old... Saw Zappa 10 times, Zoot Allures tour was maybe the best, stripped down Guitar, bass, drums, keyboards. Tons of long extended jams with a lot of outrageous banter. Man, am I old...

    Scott, She had gray-green skin

    A doll with a pin
I told her she was awright
    But I couldnt come in
(actually, I was very busy then)

    And so she wandered
    Trough the door-way
Just like a shadow from the tomb
She said her stereo was four-way
An Id just love it in her room

    Well, I was born
    To have adventure
So I just followed up the steps
Right past her fuming incense stencher
To where she hung her castanets

    She said she was
    A magic mama
And she could throw a mean tarot
And carried on without a comma
That she was someone I should know

(is that a real poncho...i mean
    Is that a mexican poncho
Or is that a sears poncho?
    Hmmm...no foolin ...)

If only we could put the lyrics to "Bobby Brown" up...

    Funny how these

threads always lead to Zappa. He was originally from Baltimore. I read he won a talent show in high school by taking a bicycle wheel, tuning the spokes and playing a tune on it in the competition. An interesting side note. Lowell George of Little Feat fame once played with the Mothers of Invention. I have a picture of him from the Zappa album, We're only in it for the Money." The story goes that Zappa once saw or heard some of Lowell's songs and fired him from the group telling him he was too good to be playing for someone else. This led to the birth of the group Little Feat. Dixie Chicken and Feet Don't Fail me Now. One of my favorite groups ever. :) WW

    Hey Jeff.

Looks like they are still very busy people. At one time they had the former lead singer from Pure Prarie League sing for them. I don't know if he still is. They played a wine festival around here last Summer. I wasnt able to go but heard they can still boogie. Does anyone remember Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band??? Hit songs were Boogie till you Puke, and Christmas at Kmart. WW

I would probably know just what to do,, don't you?
My all time favorite group, lost my cherry listening to Guinevere in my 63 Ford Galaxie while two horses in a field next to the car watched, maybe I should write a song about it.
Scotty, I have every CSN and CSN&Y song on MP3, let me know if theres one you want and can't find, I'll burn a cd and send it.

    John!

I am a big Nighthawks fan. I have all of their albums, havent listened to them in ages. I got no turntable. They played at my college homecoming in Rockville in 72. I remember sitting listening with my mouth agape wondering who the hell these guys were. BTW Root boy has passed on to the big stage in the sky. I used to pick up a helper in Takoma Park every day, and would see Root Boy looking like a homeless person, drifting around town aimlessly. The story was he lost a big record deal because he puked on stage at the end of his song "Boogie till you Puke." It was too much. The record company pulled the contract quickly and left him to the fate of local legend instead of big bucks stardom. "Put an quarter in the juke......Boogie till you puke.....:) WW

All right, you asked for it...

Who remembers the Jim Kweskin Jug Band? Dave Van Ronk? Phil Ochs? Tom Paxton? The Weavers? Poco? Caught the PBS documentary on the Kingston Trio last night, and also caught the Bob Dylan Documentary a couple months ago. Joan Baez still looks hot, Mary Travers looks like a corpse. Where's my black turtleneck sweater? Hey Scott, did Charlie ever get off the MTA?

    Tom Paxton...`

A great old folkie. Wrote "I'm Changing My Name To Chrysler" after the government bailed out Iacocca in the late 70's. Arlo Guthrie did it on the "Special Friends" live album with Pete Seger (talk about a great live album!) He also wrote "Wasn't That A Party!" made famous by the Rovers in 81. Why do I know this crap?

And speaking of folkies who rock -- anyone out there into John Prine?
  • BillW@honeywell
    BillW@honeywell Member Posts: 1,099
    Ah yes. Roy!

He was fantastic, and his stint with the Traveling Wilburys just before he died was some of his best work, imho. I caught John Sebastian (Lovin'Spoonful) and Judy Collins a while back at Waterloo Village. Sebastian was great, reborn after a LONG fight with drugs, and Judy Collins can still bring you to tears with that incredible voice. Her version of "Send in the Clowns" left the whole crowd so stunned it took nearly a minute after she had ended the song before they broke into a standing ovation that lasted 5 minutes or more!

If I had ever been here before

I probably would have stayed where I was. Actually it is pretty cool, except I am still spending too much time for the Energy Source(Too many big jobs to pass up) Nathan is doing a great job on the installs, but sales and design work is time consuming for some of the jobs he will be doing this year. It is fun to be helping the contracors that I am working with delv into the newer systems, radiant, solar. I get to work more on the technical side of things and am learning more detail every day of the design side of things that I would learn for one job, and then forget by the time I needed the information the next time that particular thing came up. So I think It will keep my enthusiasm up for another ten years or so,and then I'm outa hair like a bald guy!!

is an American Icon. One of the best wordsmiths in the country. I've been to see him at least 12 times. The last album of his I bought was "Lost Dogs and Mixed Bleesings. His best album in years. He rocks out and makes it seem fun and easy. My fav on that is the song "Big, Fat Love." He seems to be having fun with his carrer, and doesnt lean too heavily on his earlier success. Although I saw him last year at Wolftrap Ampitheater and found myself wishing he'd play more of the recent album. WW
