Are there any shutoff flanges on the zone pump, a pic of your piping might be in order here too

gravity retrofit
I've got a oil boiler that is getting too cold of return water on a gravity retrofit. The bypass is located on the discharge side of the pump coming off of the branch of the tee. The bypass doesn't change anything, its wide open. I read the weil-mclain install book and there isn't valves in the places they tell you to put them. I guess I'm going to have to install a valve to throttle back the supply to the zone. The boiler is a cold boiler. If I switched it to a hot boiler do you burn more oil than if it is a cold boiler. It did run for an hour before it reached 170 degrees.
Thanks for your input0 -
System By-pass
A system by-pass returns supply water back to the boiler to help prevent thermo shock...
If the circulators are pumping away from the boiler ....The system by-pass tees after the circulator back to the return .
If the cirulator is pumping to the boiler.....The system by-pass tees before the circulator from the supply....
I would pipe a single zone ,non hot water gravity boiler...... cold start , no flowvalve with a B aquastat...
Assuming that the boiler is sized to the heat loss of the structure....The slow low temperture will add to the comfort...
A out door reset would add even more comfort..0
