Hmm...
" Favoritism runs rampant and if you sent plans to us we would fax results to every qualified contractor and wholesaler within 50 miles because we had to ensure that OUR materials were sold ."
And if this was the truth..........
How long did it take for every contractor that sent you plans to drop your supply house , forever , ( or until you were S-canned ) after finding this out ? It only takes one honest contractor out of the fifty to tumble that little scheme , if it were the truth .
Why hide behind a made up name ? I bet you're a frequent poster to this site when you use a real name and addy .0 -
My industry
My response to this chain is to tell some of the writers my story as it may lend some light to all of these concerns.
I have been in the supply business since 1974 when I worked for a steam and hot water only distributor. My history is very similar to our host Dan and many others that made more than just a living in this industry. I have followed the radiant market since its beginnings in the 80's and I have wondered at times about the choices I made in staying with the industry when many other oportunities have passed my way. It has been a good choice.
One of the concerns in reading all of these comments is the lack of understanding about how our industry evolves. Let me make it clear that I did not come into our industry knowing all that I know today. I learned it from the factory people and representatives that did training . We are an industry that trains non-stop and still can't keep up with the need.
Everyone in this business started somewhere, and as an industry we have a resposibility to train at all levels. For some it is a new product or system for others it is the latest from Tekmar.
I am very proud of our industry and it's history. I am proud of the sucess that is reflected by this website and it's host. Most of all I am proud of my company its salespeople and our customers.
It is always in the interest of everyone to listen and help when needed. Our best judgement in this case was to participate on this project and help where possible. That is what we do when we can.
As always thanks to everyone for the input.

A Very Wise Man...
A very wise man once told me, "Eugene, I am in business to make money, but I don't have to make money every day".
These words have stuck in my mind for some time now and it makes a lot of sense. By forging relationships, helping others and, in turn, helping others help others, your are creating wealth for yourself. Maybe not in the monetary sense at first...0 -
i hate being an idealist....*~/:)
my folks donated their time to kids in hospital, scouts, disabled vetrans, the elderly with disabilities and they never asked for a dime. maybe somebody could have donated some toys for the kids buh i got to think it was good ol santa Pops dropping a dime
Moms probably broke out the cookie jar for the brownies :)or girl guides ...
some companies are comprised of some very strong individualist who think in their mind 'This seems like a good cause ' ...i would like to add some energy to what is being accomplished' maybe there is some underlying personal reason or satisfaction in helping someone
Poppazano used to say"the Gateway to Hell is Paved with Good intentions" his meaning is, if you are going to help out ,do it.....his other ideas that rolled with that were many here's one though,.."if you don't make a few mistakes from time to time ...you cant be doing much."
man this took me along time to type...0 -
And as long
as you keep that additude you'll allways have a great reputation. I know from your post Rick, that you don't "move box's".

Strength in numbers
Having covered the dealer/distributor relationships, it boggles my mind how beneficial a strong partnership can be to both sides. There are so many good business practices, including training, that dealers can get from their distributors. And in return, distributors can have dealer loyalty and continued support. If your distributor is not trying to help you succeed, run as fast as you can to one who is willing to help. It is in the best interest of a distributor to sell to successful and loyal dealers. I may be simple-minded but how can this relationship be defined in any easier terms?0 -
\"Author\", That was spoken like
a person in hiding....
Whether one disagrees or agrees with the discussion here, how about a little daylight? Nothing wrong with posting any time of the day or night, but last I checked, Mark and others used their names to stand behind their words. "A Former Rep" being a notable exception.

Mark in reply to this posting, I think you are an immature brat who needs to get a life and stop posting blogs at 12:30 in the morning. I think you need to open up your eyes and realize that certain reps do provide contractors with that type of service (designing a system) and if you're not getting the jobs maybe you need to wake up and realize that you better start using that service too.0 -
Scott hopefully we move people-
-Into the direction of profit and labor savings utilizing the manufacturers & technologies at our disposal. Thanks for noticing...
