Expansion tanks

When changing out a customer's boiler, what (if any)
advantage is there to removing the old steel expansion tank that is still in good shape, "with an airtrol fitting" for a new diaphragm expansion tank?

    I would keep it. You already have the Airtrol fitting and that's a big plus. You will never have to worry about a diaphragm blowing out....That's a Keeper;-)

    if the ceiling

    If the ceiling is taller than normal, tank out of the way of customers walking around, I'd reuse the tank. Otherwise, I junk it due to airtrol sticking too low to scrap some skin and hair from ur head.... Remember, to PUMP away from the tank!

    One down side is you still have a 30-60 year old tank hanging up there...I guess you can switch it over later when the old tank leaks..

    You cannot use a micro-bubble ar eliminator in conjunction with that old tank. If you desire a Spirovent or similar product, you would then have to install a new diaphragm tank.
