Is the Cv rating of a valve the maximum flow rate allowable through it?

    Cv Ratings

    The Cv rating as commonly used in the U.S., is the flow rate through a valve (or other device) in Gallons per Minute at a pressure drop of 1.0 PSIG (2.31 feet of head).

    The head loss through the valve at a given flow rate is: hl=(1.52*gpm/Cv)^2
