Question the placement of this flow check. Are you SURE it's on a return?
The valve handle was "appropriated" after the "lever" broke, when trying to open it for one reason or another. I recently saw a similar modification, but it was definately on a supply line, where it belonged. The leak from not tightening the packing nut upon install and commisioning leaked early in its carreer and rotted out the lever, right around the set screw. When someone tried to flip the lever, it was split, and fell(spilt?) right into their hand. Chris

I found this valved elbow on the return side of a hot water boiler--old one-- and I was wondering what the heck it was. I highlighted the OPEN/Closed with a sharpie so you could see it.0 -
Looks like
a flow check to me.

Flo check
Scott, I couldn't agree more. It is definitely a flow control valve. It almost looks as though someone changed the handle over the years. Normally they have a lever type handle. I've never seen one round before. I'm surprised to see it on the return side of the system though. They are, as a rule, on the supply side.
