Two-Pipe System Needs Major Work

I need a pro to work on the two-pipe steam system in my 1917 home in Aurora, IL.

After discussing the problems with my steam system here on The Wall, I've got a pretty good idea I need the following work done:

• Repiping all around the boiler
• Venting and dripping the main
• Fixing or replacing failed traps

Besides contact info for a local (or even regional) steam pro, I'd also be grateful for a ball park on what this is likely to cost me.

The main is a big loop that needs to be split, vented and dripped to the boiler, about 20 feet away. I've got 8 radiators, a mix of 5-pipe with 8C traps and 3-column either without traps or with old elbow-looking ones.

The boiler, a Burnham I8N, is currently set up with only one of the two pipes coming out of it; the other is capped. There isn't a Hartford loop (took me a while to realize this).

Dave and I had a great chat about the steam system this morning. He's clearly the man for the job. Unfortunately, he won't be able to come out this way for several weeks, possibly not until December.

Eric, if you wish, you can call my boss, Wayne Jett, owner of Jett's Heating and Air, at 815-276-5951 to discuss this further. Please be aware that we are based out of the city of McHenry IL, located in northern McHenry County. I believe we about 1 to 1 1/2 hours away from Aurora.

I don't want you to be misled, so I will say that I have some experience with steam heat, mostly maintenance and service of the boiler itself. I however do have a high work ethic, I love to do things right, even if it involves research to make sure it is done right. I have to say Dave is your best bet, but since he is so busy, (no surprise there) I would not have a problem with checking out your system further, of course with permission from Wayne.

Please forgive me as I don't have the time to browse your previous post at this moment. However, I will try my best to read it over in the next day or two to get a better idea of you needs.

I for one would use the anology this site compares to going to Mayo Clinic. Any other doctor is just a quack. I'm located in northern, ILL. No one pops up in a 75 mile radius in find a proffesional. Boiler Pro, do you know Jack King, Jack Skully, or Greg Liebing of Amboy? We all use to work together. Small world !
