OK, A Plumbing Problem -- HELP

Not a steam problem, but there are a lot of old pros who will read this... I hope... and have helped me a lot in years gone by.

Problem: in the building I maintain, I have a number of beautiful old fauceets. I want to keep them. They are compression type -- with 3/4 inch seats. They had, when new, a slightly raised lip around the seat. The problem is I can't find a seat reamer that size to refinish the seats when they start to drip -- 5/8 inch is the biggest my suppliers have.

HELP! Anybody know where I can find a proper reamer? Washers aren't a problem -- they're available...

There are alot of "plumbing specialty" houses out there that should have (or can get), this re-seat tool. I don`t usually re-seat removable ones, but the company that may have this tool, may also have "oddball" seat sizes as well! Look around, I have 3/4" seats listed in my books! The faucet manufacturer name, and the appearance of the old-one is a definate plus.
  • is 48 an old pro?

I used to carry the seat reamer set/kit on my truck with my former company... Don't remember the biggest size as it been so looong that I used it. What's brand faucet are these? Even those oldies do have removable seats...

    Seats

Are they removable?? If they come out, clean the pitted area with a cleaning brush and fill the void with 95/5 solder then file smooth. If you cant find a replacement, this works great.

    old brass gets brittle

and a re-grind seldom lasts very long. Get the seats out and replace them.

If you do re-grind a tapered cone shaped washer provides more seating area than a flat washer. But the smallest of nicks in the seat will destroy the washers.

PM faucet repair is another with a wide selection. A `seat gauge will give you diameter and threads pitch to match up.

Use to be an old timer in So Cal that would custom machine odd seats, monel if you prefer :) if you sent him the old one.

My shop teacher in high school used to have a sexauer book he'd refer to. The company name always made for a good one liner... 'sexauer? I can't even get a coffee break!'

Are you sure about that website? It does not seem to exist. Do you have a phone number for the company?

that's one of those names! But the website does work, up to a point -- it would appear that one has to talk to a customer rep. first, which is no bad thing. Tomorrow...

I found the website but it is down and will not open but did find a phone number, I called it, was told I would have to talk to my area rep, I said whats his phone number? The companys reply, "We don't have it." Hmmm. Interesting organization.
