water flow

Our gas-fired hot water heating system has four zones. One of the zones isn't working because hot water has stopped flowing through the baseboards (everything else seems to be working). My son turned a valve off and then quickly on again at a point where the water supply from this zone heads back to the furnace. Could that be the problem?

Probably not...sounds like the purge valve. It sounds like you are air bound. Do you have one circ and 4 zone valves, or 4 circs (pumps)? You may just need to bump up the pressure (cold) to 25, and close the valve on the return just beyond the drain cock, attach a hose, and open the drain...whamo...the pressure should force the water and air around the zone and purge it of air. Since only one zone is affected, it may be a zone valve that does not open, or a bad t-stat for that zone, or if you have seperate pumps, a bad impeller. Has your son been playing with any other boiler parts?Be sure to put the pressure back to 10 for single story, 15 or so for 2-3 story home.
