    HB smith boiler.

    HI,
I've been using the same oil service for 30+ years. Recently they where sold. The knew people came in and immediately said my HB SMith boiler has expired(not sure what expired means. I asked what was wrong but was told 'expired') and they would renew our contract. I paid another oil company to assess my boiler. They said HB Smith is a good boiler and I should have many more years of service. I'm thinking, Since I am older, this new owner may have done this to many of their current customers, scare tactics. I'm wondering if I should notify the AG of my State?

    Upgrade

If you dealt with the last company for 30 yrs how old is your system? It may be time to replace just to get something more energy efficient especially with today's prices. Old systems continue to run but that doesn't make them efficient.

approx 25 years with a new RIELLO burner

Thanks for your response. Is it possible the new company was trying to rip me off? Scare tactics? That was 2 years ago.

    25 years

I don't know if I am following you right. Is it an older boiler with a 25 year old Riello or a 25 year old boiler with a new Riello? If the boiler is older than 25 years there may be something more energy efficient now. Not knowing your company I can't speak to their honesty, there are many companies that promote newer equipment for energy savings but it is a double edge sword, they need the revenue of new installs to make up for the decrease in oil consumption. Newer equipment is more energy efficient and burns cleaner making for a better atmosphere.

    ok

    Hi Ken,

If it is a Red Series 8 they still make them and they are good. If it is a little blue FD 12 they were a bad run and leaked, there are very few left. If it is a large BB 14 (I think that's what it is)it can be an oil user.

    Hope this helps,
    Leo
