Installing a Aprilaire 360

Are there any hot water lines nearby?

I installed a humidifier in a house one fall and got an excited call from the home owner.

"What did you do?" she asked. "I used to have to wait what seemed like forever for hot water at the sink and now it's almost instantanous!"

It seems that I tapped the hot water line near the furnace and that was right under the kitchen sink.

    Installing an Aprilaire 360

I just installed an Aprilaire 360 humidifier which requires it to be connected to the hot water with a 1/4" line. the problem is that it's too far from the water heater to keep the flow of hot water to it. I have no way of connecting a recirc. line, so I was wondering if installing a small electric instant hot water heater, the kind used for hot drinks, would do the trick? Thanks for any opinions. -Ed

Jeff, there is a hot water line hooked up to it now but the main line is too far from the water heater. The other alternative is one of those retrofit recirc. pumps from grundfos or the like.

    Okay...

The supply line for the humidifier is hooked up to a hot water line, but at a long distance from the WH? The water will heat up as the humidifier runs.

The long run for the 1/4" copper is not the problem. Make your tap for the saddle valve as close to the outlet side of the hot water side of the tank, and insulate the line. 1/4" copper line does not hold much water.I'd bet that 100' of copper does not hold more than 16 oz. of water.Good Luck.

Jim, my problem is the long run of 3/4 water line that the 1/4" copper is tapped into. I have no way of getting the 1/4" line from the humidifier tapped in near the hot water tank. The humidifier is located on the first floor and the water heater is in the basment on the other side of the house. The aprilaire 360 is a stand alone unit.
