    5 pound steamer

One of our local hotels as this wonderful steamer in the basement. All rads are cool - it's not achieving pressure, feeding constantly & the burner is on constantly. After a bit of sleuthing I told the maint guy that he had a steam break - turns out its under the bar in a crawlspace. Had to chain saw a trap door in the middle of the bar. 4 inch main, 103 years old. So the question is this - do I drag down the geared threader and thread a pup or do I drag in my friendly rig welder. What are my chances of repairing this given the age of the pipe??? I'm thinking that after all this time - the pipe may well be very thin and not suitable for threading. Any ideas????

    copper liner

if it is a straight run without branch connections maybe you could slide copper inside and connect on both ends

    Amen

chances are if it broke once, it's going to break again; been there, done that... replace as much of it as you can.
