Poor draft

chimney draft, but the numbers you give after relacing the flue collector rope seem curious. Possibly over-fired or flame hitting the target wall?

    poor draft

Hello, I am getting poor draft on a w-mclain gold 2 section and can not seem to raise it. Vented from the top. I replaced all the rope on the flue box when cleaning the sections and that reduced the breech draft from -.10 to -.05
but the over fire never change from barely -.01. Closing the
damper all the way did not raise it either and opening the damper all the way only brings it to +.04. Stand by draft is -.05 and -.06 at the breech. This is the first time working on this unit and the owner hasn't been there long so there is no history on this. No tags on the unit and the new owner said the old owner got sooted the year before.
I am not comfortable at just under -.01. Thank you for any help. Joey

    These numbers are weird,

when you replaced the seals on the flue collector it should have gone up -.05 to -.10 if you have a better seal????

    2 section boilers...

can be a nuisance, even when all looks good. I still think you are over-fired (but that's not our product).

    Jim

You were right. This was set up for a GO3(.85/60) vs. a GO2 so it has a flow rate 25% higher and a longer flame too. GO2 is suppose to be .65-70B. Owner doen't want it corrected, says it's been OK since he has lived there.

Firedragon, ???? on the breech draft. House is in the open
and it is raining with windy today. maybe currential draft over the chimney????

Thank you for the help. Joey T.

    Weil Mclane GO

I have never had a GO series with proper over fire. I called tech support on this problem some time ago and they told me that the section right under the tankless coil to the front must be clean or you will never get a O.F. draft. They told me to remove the front cover lay on my back and use what ever will get that section cleared of carbon etc. That improved my O.F. draft a bit but never what is suppose to be.It's unfortunate when you pick up an account that was never done right to begin with then you are stuck with trying to get it right which might never happen. Oh by the way the best way they told me to clear that was to take it apart, "yeh right"

    Bingo, maybe!

You must be in New England, blowing like all get out up here!

With any luck Jim it's not on a plugged boiler call. I explained why it shouldn't have such a low draft. I would have changed the nozzle, changed the plate for set back, did a combustion test and been on my way but he wasn't really interested as long as it was set up like when I got there.
Hey Biged, "Yeh right" is "Right" this thing has no background at all. No service tags or stickers anywhere.

Fire Dragon, New England it is. This one was in New Hampshire.
