Balancing Valve Question

to install this balancing valve. i.e. from which end does water flow into and through it? Also, balancing valves are installed on the return side of the radiator, correct?

Assuming a whole bunch of stuff your post does NOT state,
You may not use that balancing valve with a series loop system. But either a monoflow (one-pipe) system, or two - pipe reverse return it is perfacet at reducing output of any single emitter (radiator of HWBB, or radiant panel) because it simply restricts flow.
However, it also can do something no one ever thinks of! That being, it will allow MORE flow through all the other emitters, by virtue of the restriction imposed to the any or all emitters that is anything less than full open balancing valve!
I love them, use them all the time to balance systems. Set 'em and fawgettem.
BTW, they can go in ANY orientation unless marked "in" or "out," (in which case follow that direction). Supply OR return side of an "emitter" - makes no difference.
One caveat. Don't get flux and solder on the "paddle" or shaft when soldering in the CxC styles. The "paddle" will seize in the bore and render the fitting useless.

This is going on a two-pipe system. I'm aware of the fact that by decreasing the flow to any one radiator the flow will increase to the others; I'm using them with that in mind. These particular balancing valves, by legend are ball-type valves.

I'm too cheap to use the ball type (;-o)
But IMHO, they are so nice to use - paddle or ball type.

Balancing Valve ???
I dont know your particular way of terming a valve but as close as I can see from your picture that is not a balancing valve but merely a ball valve. That type of valve is not designed for partial flow. A true balancing valve should be something like a globe style valve which is designed for partial flow. I like to use victaulic balance valves. They seem to work very well. They are easy to set, and
read. They have ports to balance. They are directional, and have to be taken apart to be
soldered. My price for a 3/4" valve is $11. They are less expensive than B&G and better.0
