Gravity conversion

Went out on a boiler estimate today for a small efficiency above a garage. The current boiler is an old oil fired American Standard gravity system, which was converted from steam many moons ago! The system is located in the garage beneath the apartment and has exposed mains. I am afraid if I convert it to forced hot-water that the pipes will freeze.

Any Suggestions?

Gravity won't freeze but forced circulation will cause it to freeze? Why? (Aren't you going to do constant circulation?)

You could always use non-toxic anti-freeze in a hydronic system.

Why not...

Pipe the boiler P/s with a system circ running continuously and then inject into the system with the boiler pump (equipped with a Flo control)on a call for heat?

TRy constant circ. with TRV's on the radiators. Your customer will love it and will be shocked at the comfort level. Get some reset in thier either system or boiler and you've got a sweet system.
