    I have used.....

Pex for heat(baseboard) for almost 10 years...mostly Wirsbo. The one thing I do though is back at the boiler I transition up in the floor joist area so it doesn't look as sloppy...as you know it gets very loose, floppy and sags at 180F! In your case ron you might just be better of using plastic "mickey mouse ears" every 18" or so and cover it up some how...I am sure you will work it out....kpc

    PAP

The only other PAP product I've worked with besides Fosta-Pex is Kitec and it's not nearly as nice to work with.

We've gotten to the point where we use Fosta-Pex for everything we possibly can. Now you can get jaw sets that fit on the Pro-Press tool that will swage the sleeve on the F-P besides. It's just too sweet! Imagine cutting your installation time in half on just about any project you can imagine.
  • We can get you anything you like

Call me at work at 516 484 2610 ext 456 if you aren't finding what you like when you need it.

    I want to help.

    Keep it straight

Ron, this mechanical contractor I work for sometimes, uses Uni-strut or Kindorf attached to the wall or ceiling and then uses pvc electrical conduit held in place with the little tube hangers that fit into the uni-strut.

I was with him at this rich guys house and it looked perfect. I wanted to take some pictures but the rich guy didn't want me to!

Fpr 1/2" pex he used 1" pvc and near the ceiling he used the electrical 90° sweeps. With an 8 foot basement he probably had a 6 foot pipe. This left room at top and bottom to feed into the sweeps. It looks like a reactor room in a nuclear plant. Plumb, square, level , perfect. Wish I could show you.

pex in boxed chase or boxed soffit looks way better to me:) "Keep your work 'Up'"is my motto...transition out of ceilings and walls and floors with copper.copper looks straight.uni strut clamps etc.. say i cant find those white plastic end caps for my uni stut any more..any ideas?

    Wirsbo

offers straight lengths of their Aqua-Pex. Not available in the HePex though.

If you do not use some sort of conduit, be sure you support any Pex that will have hot water running through it along the entire run. It will sag if you don't.

    You will like using it.

    washer

If you use a 120 volt mig welder tack a large galvanized washer on the ends to " Protect people from those sharp corners" gives a nice rounded end.

    unistrut

"I was thinking more along the lines of a track - like some use to attach their wall piping to their nice diamond plate . Is it called Clevis track ? Not sure."

    Do you mean unistrut?

On long Horizontal runs, try this.....

Take a simple laser pointer and an insert grommet for 12 copper tube (or 34). (Sioux Chief or Jones Stephens inserts that use a 1-38" hole) Drill your first hole, insert the grommet, set the laser pointer at the next joist, check your alignment, and drill.

As you drill the 2nd Joist, the laser will point on thru to the next joist and so on. The beauty is that you don't have to stop and measure for each joist and you are laser perfect straight to the end of your run.

I actually have a laser bore sighter for my guns, and it comes with several different adapter sizes for each gun bore. I train and certify contractors on Wirsbo Aquapex for potable systems, but this is a universal method that can be used with any CTS Pex-Al-Pex or so on.

I have no idea if this will work for you on your particular job, but this is a simple method that has great looking results with a notable time savings.

Look at the "Pex Run" picture first.

  • Hey Noel

Thank you for the offer . After these 2 rolls are used up , we would like to try something different . Are Slant Fin pex and supplies readily available around here ?
  • Yes

A few companies are stocking on the Island, now.

I can get you anything (that's in stock, which is almost everything, usually) within a day, usually.

Call me, if you like, and I can work with you on it.

Any time in the future, too, if you like.

    Noel
  • Wirsbo is hard to find

around here - hell , any pex is hard to find around here . I don't get an advance notice of what I'm doing till the day it's going in , so we need a readily available supply close to the area .

The reason I convinced my boss to try it is beacuse theres a home run from point A to B - no fittings between . Using straight lengths increases the need for fittings . But you're right Mark - it's much nicer looking that way . And you're right again - I love running pex instead of copper . Just one job and I'm sold .
  • I used the electrical sweeps

to bring the pex out of the floor . I think using the electrical conduit alone without Kindorf would look pretty good . You think I would need to insulate the pex inside the conduit if it's located in a garage on a wall ajacent to a heated space ?
  • Excellent

I'll give you a call Monday about it . Would you have a catalog of all the different parts ? Any chance I could get one mailed to me ? I'll email you my address if it's possible . Thanks again Noel .
  • Thanks everyone

Wow , so many choices I didn't even think about .

The best bang for the buck might be sleeving the pex through the gray electrical tubing - cheap and straight . Doing each pex pipe individually instead of one big tube might look better . At least the pipes would be easier to isolate if needed . I would love to Unistrut or Kindorf too , but I think might be overkill .

I asked Bill this question too - would the plastic electric conduit be a good enough insulator for the pex in a garage , on a wall next to heated space ?
  • yes; yes; and yes

    Thanks

    Great Idea Paul

Now, If I don't have a laser bore sighter, can I just use the gun itself and shoot through the joists? What caliber would be best suited to I-joists, and should I use hollow point or something with a full metal jacket? Or could you just juice up the power on the laser and use it all by itself? Kevin

    Forgive him everyone.....

    Just so everyone knows.....

Kevin is actually one of my best friends and is like a brother to me....of course, he's the brother that we don't talk alot about, but you if you ever have the chance, please meet Kevin. He has a wonderful family as well.

Kevin has never been CONVICTED of running Pex, but maybe today is the day. Also, Kevin has never been convicted of committing a crime with a lawn-mower.
