    I have a friend who lost his son about six months ago. The son was in his early twenties and a really fine person. His heart, though had a defect nobody knew about and he died alone in his apartment. The father and son had shared an interest in photography, but until going through the negatives, the father hadn't known just how much of an artist the son was with his camera. Now, Dad is getting deep into photography, looking for the art too. It's a way for him to keep his son closer and it seems to help. Hopefully the story can help you.

    I cannot fathom your grief, I cannot comprehend the level of personal pain you are going through, I can only tell you that even in this time of great difficulty and distress, you are loved.     Rocky,

    I recently had a conversation with my Grandmother, who is 86. You see, when my Dad was about 4 years old there was a LP explosion in the basement of their house. His 2 year old sister died as a result of that explosion and my Dad who is 64 now was burned severely. Of course, he still has the scars all over his legs and arms.

    I had never talked to my Grandmother about this tragedy until a few weeks ago although I knew most of the story since I was a kid.

    My grandmother still hurts about this incident from some many years ago. Yes, she lived life and raised three other children but will always remember Judy, her daughter that she lost.

    Rocky, I am so very sorry for your loss. I will promise to you, just like I promised my Grandmother a few weeks ago that I will never taked my kids for granted. I will always cherish our moments together.

    I am so sorry for the lose of your son.I have two small boys that I am looking at as I write this to you.I can not imagine the hurt you and your wife must feel right now,but all my prayers are with you at this time.I hope that god helps you in this time and gives you the strenght to carry on.Hold your wife she needs you .

    Rocky, My heart sank when I opened this one. I am so sorry for you. You will need to tell this a good number of times to get through it. You will find there are others of us. You will see that they go on , and tackle projects, and it is their human duty to do so. It will soften your heart , because we are all so vulnerable to chance.
    There will come a day, in years perhaps, when you will see clearly, and it will surprise you. Right now you have a large rock in your pack. Take care of your wife and of yourself. I bet your son was a great guy. Weigh his wishes into this.

    Rocky, What a tragic thing to happen.

    I pray that God will give you a special grace to endure, and be able to minister to your wife too. I do not know you at all personally, but pray that you can draw on the strength, that only God can provide.

    Don't be shy about asking for help from those who love you. All too often people don't say the right things or don't know how to help, but want to. Let them know.

    I read your post earlier today. This evening I took the dogs up into the hills above our valley, verdant and fecund in springtime. I watched the sun set behind the mountains and I thought about you and yours and I let myself be touched by your grief. I'm so sorry.
