Pressure Reducer, & tankless: Expansion Tank?

to have one put in . Pressure reducers usually do not let water flow through them backwards , so a good buildup of pressure will kick the relief valve open . Hey Phil , is this the job you were talking about a few weeks ago ?

Pressure Reducer, & tankless: Expansion Tank?

Gonna put a whole house pressure reducing valve on M.I.L. house (street pressure is more than 125 psi). The gas fired boiler has a 4 gpm tankless coil in it.

Does this require an expansion tank?

    What size?

There will be about 8 feet of 1/2" copper from the whole house reducer to the tankless coil.

    Expansion tank

For tankless coils we use a watts 150A water hammer arrester it is plenty big enough for the small volume contained in a tankless coil.

    Yep

Same job, Ron. I knew/know that with a water heater tank you need an expansion tank. I just wasn't so sure for a tankless coil.

Thanks John, for that tip. Do you have a favorite whole house pressure reducer? (Someone had recommended one a few weeks ago, but I mismember and cannot find that thread here. I didn't mark it.)

Just make sure you use a potable water expansion tank...

FYI: every water heater doesn't need a tank, only homes with PRV's, like stated above, the act like check vavles and don't allow expansion back into the street water line

serviceman buddy of mine and he told me they keep going back on new boiler installs with a coil . The domestic relief valves keep popping , even on the highest setting . I don't know if each home had a backflow preventer or a pressure reducer . Would those little white Amtrol Mini-trols work good for a coil and excess pressure ?
